Where dogs are part of the family
It's very important that you brush your dog while it is dry - and thoroughly remove all matts and knots before any bathing. You should be able to go through the coat all over with a brush and then follow this with a comb to be sure the coat is completely matt free. If a dogs coat is left with matts or knots these will get bigger and tighter after bathing and drying. Vital areas to remember - groin, armpits, neck and around the feet.

These come in a variety of shapes and sizes. They have metal hooked pins that assist with pulling out the dead hair from the dogs coat. Care should be taken when using the slicker brush. If too much pressure is used then it can easily damage the dogs skin.

The comb is used to separate the dogs coat. It helps to remove small tangles.
This is designed to fit over the groomers hand. This is used over short coated dogs to help with removing dead coat. One side of the hound glove normally has wire bristles and the other side is normally covered in a velvet type material.
This is used to remove large mats from long coated breeds. The rake has small blades on one side and will cut through the mats without causing too much stress to the dog. Care must be taken that you do not apply too much pressure as you could damage the dogs skin.

The terrier pad is used on terriers to go through all the different types of coats that it has. it is most commonly used in the show ring.
Natural bristle brushes come in a variety of sizes with a cushioned pad. These can be used on a variety of dogs and coats.

This is designed to remove mats and tangles with the minimum of hair loss. The blades are sharp so that they can cut through the mats easily. Be careful not to tug too hard.
A mat splitter has one small individual blade that cuts through mats with ease. it is easy to use and the dog will not get stressed out over its use.

A grooming rake is used to remove dead under coat from a double coated breed of dog.
